RADICAL EMPATHY
While focusing on what the agency of a citizen in society today can be, this choreographic system was developed where each dancer, from start to finish, has the ability to reroute the entire performance at any moment. Within a finely balanced combination of set material and improvisation, the dancers navigate together, influencing, persuading, convincing each other of what each feels the optimal next step is. Throughout the evening, we witness what capacity or resistance anyone has for change amongst this vibrant group of individuals.
MOVE ON, MOVE OVER,
MOVE ON, MOVE OVER,
MOVE ON, MOVE OVER,
MOVE ON, MOVE OVER,
SIT BESIDE ME,
AND SEE HOW I FEEL,
CAN YOU BELIEVE,
THAT THIS IS FOR REAL
YOU WANT TO TRY,
TO FIT IN MY SHOES?
I CAN GO BAREFOOT,
BUT YOU’VE GOT TO CHOOSE
JUST WHERE YOU ARE GOING,
TO FOLLOW, OR LEAD,
WITH GENEROSITY,
OR PLENTY OF GREED
THIS IS SYSTEM IS DIZZY,
THIS SYSTEM NEEDS TIME,
YOU WANT TO GET BUSY?
THEN SING ME THIS RHYME
WHAT COULD BE COMING?
WHAT’S NEXT, WHO KNOWS?
RADICAL EMPATHY,
IN MY FINGERS AND TOES
